From “Hello” to “I love you,” a simple word or phrase can change someone’s day or even their life. What we don’t always consider is that the words we tell ourselves are just as important as the ones we tell others. That’s where affirmations come in.
What are affirmations?
Affirmations are short phrases designed to boost your happiness and positivity. You can say these aloud or in your head, and you can carry a totem that reminds you of them or not. The important thing is that you replace any negative self talk with these positive words instead.
What can I say?
You should pick whatever words or phrases work best and resonate with you. If you like to be pushed, your phrase could be, “You can do this.” If you’re looking for acceptance, you can say, “You’re great as you are.” Whatever you choose, it should be unique to you and what you’re looking for.
When do I use them?
Many people use affirmations when they find themselves in times of stress and anxiety. This is perfectly fine, but a more regular approach is even better. If you regularly say your affirmation even when you’re doing okay, you’ll be primed to go to it right when you start feeling stressed out. Think of it like a muscle on your body. The more you exercise positivity and acceptance, the stronger it’ll be and the more you’ll be able to rely on it in a tricky situation.
Ultimately, you want to be kind to yourself. Many of us are good to others and tend to their needs, yet not good to ourselves. Stay positive with your affirmations. That positive energy will build a better you, and be noticed by those around you.
